A workshop on building presence and visibility for leaders of all levels.
Visible tech and design leaders are great for their companies and their communities: their conference talks inspire peers (and help company recruitment!), their internal presentations influence stakeholders and team culture, and their blog posts sometimes even spur industry innovation. But necessary voices are still missing from our industry’s stages, bookshelves, meetups, blogs, and conference tables—because being visible can feel scary: Are my ideas unique? Will I be taken seriously? Where do I even start? Breathe. This workshop will help you get past all that, and own your expertise with confidence instead.
This workshop introduced a refreshing way of approaching writing about my work. We were really encouraged to explore what we individually had to offer, who we were writing for, and what they might get out of it—so you could see how to positively encourage or influence others, at the same time as growing your own career.—Keavy McMinn, Senior Principal Engineer, Fastly
In this workshop, you’ll learn to express your ideas in a way that’s authentic to you and memorable for others, and show up with presence and confidence both at work and in your community. Then, you’ll start building a plan for bringing your presence to the world—from contributing to your company blog to getting onstage or even writing a book.
Over the course of the day, you will:
- Uncover your core perspective and expertise, and build confidence communicating them to others
- Decide who you want to reach, and how and where you’ll reach them
- Learn how to pitch your ideas to bosses, peers, publishers, conference organizers, and more
- Get feedback on each stage of your work from us and your peers
